About Capitol Hill

The Capitol Hill neighborhood is affectionately known as the Hill, and is the most densely populated area in Seattle. It serves as the center of Seattle's counterculture. The Hill is a bustling area that is home to the entire cross-section of Seattle’s population. Broadway is the main thoroughfare with shops and restaurants as diverse as the inhabitants. It gets busy in the evening with an extensive nightlife scene.

Capitol Hill Restaurants: You will find a little bit of everything on the Hill, especially along Broadway. Cassis (French) and Monsoon (Vietnamese) are two of the best restaurants in Seattle. Tango has some of the "Best Tapas in Seattle". Aoki (Sushi), Galerias (Mexican), Hana (Japanese), Kingfish Cafe (Southern), Osteria la Spiga (Italian), and Queen of Sheba (Ethiopian) are also good and not too expensive.

Capitol Hill Nightlife: The War Room is one of the most popular spots with loud music and a large rooftop deck that gets plenty of use in the summer. Rosebud Cafe has great drink specials early. Garage is a trendy combination bar, posh pool hall and bowling alley. Barca caters to the more fashion-conscious crowd, while Neighbours is probably the most popular of several bars frequented by the gay community.

Capitol Hill Apartments and Real Estate: The neighborhood has an interesting mix of housing options from the grandest mansions in Seattle to studio apartment buildings. Houses and townhouses range from the low $400,000 range up to about $5 million. Apartments start at $700 per month for the barest studios up to $3000 for luxury condos.

Capitol Hill Transportation: The main form of transportation on the Hill is probably walking up and down Broadway. Parking can be scarce, so the bus is a good option getting to and around Capitol Hill as well. The following King County Metro Transit routes serve the area, generally from 6am to 10pm: 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 25, 43, 49, and 60. The Route 84 “Night Owl” makes a stop at Broadway going east on Pine around 2am and west around 3:30am. Taxis are also readily available at night
